Welcome to the Advances in Surgery Wiki!

This Wiki focuses on the 20th century advances of new types of minimally invasive surgery.

In the quest for new and better medicine, new techniques of surgery have been developed. Many of these techniques are minimally invasive, meaning only a small incision on the body is required for treatment. This has allowed surgery to become safer because their is a smaller margin for surgical error, and the internal body is exposed to the outside environment in only one small place, allowing surgery to become more sterile. The combination of these two have made procedures that were once life-threatening become simple and carry a very low risk.

Thesis: Advances in minimally invasive surgery have made surgeries simpler and safer, allowing for faster recovery times and better health of patients.

On this wiki, you will find explanations of different types of minimally invasive surgery techniques. You will also be able to access videos of these surgical techniques to better understand. Because minimally invasive surgery requires new technology and many times the use of computers and videos, I felt the best way to learn about this surgery is by viewing videos of exactly what a surgeon would see while performing surgery.
