This Wiki focuses on the 20th century advances of new types of minimally invasive surgery.
In the quest for new and better medicine, new techniques of surgery have been developed. Many of these techniques are minimally invasive, meaning only a small incision on the body is required for treatment. This has allowed surgery to become safer because their is a smaller margin for surgical error, and the internal body is exposed to the outside environment in only one small place, allowing surgery to become more sterile. The combination of these two have made procedures that were once life-threatening become simple and carry a very low risk.
Thesis: Advances in minimally invasive surgery have made surgeries simpler and safer, allowing for faster recovery times and better health of patients.
On this wiki, you will find explanations of different types of minimally invasive surgery techniques. You will also be able to access videos of these surgical techniques to better understand. Because minimally invasive surgery requires new technology and many times the use of computers and videos, I felt the best way to learn about this surgery is by viewing videos of exactly what a surgeon would see while performing surgery.

What does this all mean???
Ureteroscopy allows surgery in the urinary system to be much simpler and less painful than in the past. This allows for people to have simple procedures that don't require them to spend so much time in the hospital. This technique is promoting better health for patients and a quicker recovery.

in the ureter.ureter and urinary system. The ureter conveys urine from the kidneys to the bladder. In this surgery, a tool called a Ureteroscope is used to navigate the urinary system inside the body. This tool is a tube with a lens on the end, allowing the surgeon to see a magnified view. This tool also has ports on it, allowing for lasers, graspers, and balloon dilators to be inserted.
A ureteroscopic procedure is commonly done to remove and repair ureter stones, strictures and tumors. The procedure involves only a small incision, and is done under local anesthetic. In many cases, patients leave the same day as their procedure.
